The joint research project between the TU Darmstadt and the HAWK aims at investigating women professors’ experiences of marginalization and their scope of action in Germany, using a qualitative research approach. The study includes several reference groups and cohorts of women professors as well as experts from the fields of gender equality at universities and counselors specialized in the higher education and research sector.
In sub-project I, located at the TU Darmstadt, researchers are mapping and analyzing women professors’ experiences at full universities and universities of the arts; sub-project II, located at the HAWK Holzminden, focuses on women professors at universities of applied sciences and universities of music. In addition to generating scholarly research results, the project will compile a guide with recommendations for the policy fields of gender equality and higher education.
The joint research project “Beyond the Glass Ceiling. Women Professors Between Recognition and Marginalization (academica)” is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the funding reference numbers 01FP1637 and 01FP1638 (duration of the project: 1 April 2017 – 30 March 2020).
